Long before modern body care became complicated, animal fats and plant oils were used in soaps, balms, and preparations for the skin.

Talhaven returns to that simplicity.

At the center of our formula is grass-fed beef tallow—a rendered fat naturally composed of fatty acids including oleic, stearic, and palmitic acids. These types of fatty acids are also relevant to the lipid-rich environment of human skin.

In cosmetic formulations, fats and oils can act as emollients, helping skin feel softer, smoother, and more conditioned. It is one reason we chose tallow as the foundation of Talhaven rather than building our formula around the long list of ingredients found in many conventional body washes.

The scientific literature surrounding topical tallow is still developing. A 2024 scoping review examining tallow and skin found potential for its use in skincare while also concluding that considerably more controlled human research is needed.
